Our Roots, Fruit, and Healing Leaves

Exercise: Your Best Energy Booster

Our Roots, Fruit, and Healing Leaves

Let your roots grow down into Him [Christ Jesus], and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. - Colossians 2:7

If you have planted herbs, flowers, trees, or the like, you know that life starts beneath the soil. In a seed’s death and burial, the soil protects and provides nutrients for the seed. Roots soon grow. In time, the plant emerges and flourishes, while continuing to be supported by the life-giving soil.

Each of us makes a choice as to where we want ourselves planted. We can choose to plant ourselves on the beaten path, rocky ground, and amongst the thorns and weeds of the world (Matthew 13:19-23). Or, we can choose to be securely planted in Jesus Christ, where there is nourishment and life everlasting.

Planted By Him

Before our roots can grow down into Christ, we must first be planted by Him. This calls for our surrender to His calling. And once we are planted, we are to draw nourishment from Him, for He is our daily bread and our living water (John 6:35).

C.H. Von Bogatzky, German hymn writer, wrote: “Then we shall be able to bring forth good fruits, and obtain victories; for it is God Himself that…makes us perfect in every good work…”

We Are Trees Of Righteousness

As we have spiritual roots that need God for growth, it’s inspiring to consider ourselves similar to the trees mentioned in Ezekiel 47:12:

“All kinds of trees providing food will grow along both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will bear fresh fruit because the water comes from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be used for eating and their leaves for healing.”

The river of water is Christ Jesus with the power of the Holy Spirit. As trees growing on both sides of this river, the living water of Jesus nourishes our roots. We grow, producing fruit and leaves for healing. This means that we share the life-giving Gospel with others through our Spirit-led words and actions. And it’s also through us that Jesus touches, restores, and lifts up the broken-hearted.

Similarly, Jesus said, “I am the vine and you are the branches. You can produce no fruit apart from me” (John 15:1-8). As the one vine that feeds its many branches, He is the only life source for us.

Consuming The Fruit

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galations 5:22-23).

We as Christ followers feed each other. I feed you, and you feed me. I give you my love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. And you feed me with yours.

Did You Know?

Scientists have found fungal organism networks called mycelium that lives in the soil, interwoven with tree roots. Mycelium composes what’s called a “mycorrhizal network,” which connects individual plants together to transfer water, nitrogen, carbon and other minerals. In effect, trees “communicate” and take care of one another.

It’s amazing to see today’s scientists are making discoveries that God’s Word mentions millennia ago.

Imagine Christ walking amongst us, as the garden of trees growing along both banks of the river. Since the indwelling Spirit produces His fruit in us, we feed one another spiritually because of our love for Christ. As a result, Jesus grows in us and out to the world.

We are one, for Jesus said, I am in my Father, you are in me, and I am in you” (John 14:20). His living water nourishes us (He in us), and we produce fruit for Jesus to consume (us in Him). Jesus Christ then grows, and we are able to produce more fruit for His service. It’s beautiful!

As mentioned earlier, each of us makes a choice as to where we want to plant ourselves. Jesus warns of seed that falls on the beaten path, rocky ground, and amongst the thorns and weeds of the world. Or, we can choose to be planted in Christ, where there is nourishment, growth, and life everlasting.

And we can pray:

Lord Jesus, I come in a posture of total surrender to you. I repent and ask for your forgiveness for any disobedience. I pray for your fruit to be produced in me, to help feed others. And for healing leaves, to help mend the broken through the sharing of Your Holy Word. I pray all of these things in your powerful and almighty name, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Exercise: Your Best Energy Booster

Many deal with daily fatigue and low energy levels, leaning on caffeine and other energy-boosting stimulants for help.

Exercise is one of the best natural ways to boost your body’s energy, and not just for a short time. With consistent exercise, the body comes to rely on its own energy throughout the day like a charged battery, rather than stimulants that have short-term effects.

Did You Know?

Most know that exercise is an overall benefit to the mind and body. It helps to:

🚀 Control appetite

🚀 Boost mood

🚀 Improve sleep

🚀 Reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, dementia, depression, and many cancers

How Does Exercise Create Energy

Exercise creates a natural, sustainable energy by improving the body's efficiency, while artificial energy (like caffeine or stimulants) provides a temporary spike by stimulating the central nervous system followed by a crash.

Exercise boosts energy naturally by increasing mitochondria, improving oxygen circulation, and enhancing cardiovascular health, which leads to greater stamina and vitality.

Exertion from exercise causes your body to produce more mitochondria inside your muscle cells. As the powerhouses of cells, mitochondria create fuel out of glucose from the food you eat, and oxygen from the air you breathe. Having more mitochondria increases your body's energy supply.

When you’re inactive, you are losing muscle cells. The cells that remain have fewer mitochondria, which lowers their ability to produce energy.

Did You Know?

Inactivity also has psychological effects. The less active you are, the less active you want to be. People who don’t exercise have a greater perception of fatigue than people who do.

Natural Energy From Exercise

  • Increases mitochondria: Exercise stimulates your body to produce more mitochondria, which are responsible for creating energy from glucose and oxygen.

  • Boosts oxygen circulation: Working out improves blood flow, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to your muscles and brain, which increases efficiency and combats fatigue.

  • Enhances cardiovascular health: Regular exercise strengthens your heart and lungs, leading to improved endurance and stamina, allowing you to perform daily tasks with more energy.

  • Improves sleep quality: Physical activity can lead to deeper, more restorative sleep, which is crucial for energy renewal.

Artificial Energy from Stimulants

  • Provides a temporary spike: Substances like synthetic stimulants in energy drinks or pre-workout supplements cause a rapid, but short-lived, surge in energy.

  • Leads to a crash: The stimulating effect is temporary, and once it wears off, the user often experiences a "crash" or dip in energy levels, sometimes feeling even more tired than before.

  • Irregular and unsustainable: This type of energy is not sustainable and doesn't build the body's natural energy reserves like exercise does.

How To Choose

  • For long-term, sustainable energy and overall health benefits, choose exercise.

  • For a quick, temporary boost with a subsequent crash, some may opt for artificial energy sources, though they lack the lasting health benefits.
